Tauranga Hobby Group
The Tauranga Hobby Group is a long-running, welcoming weekly meetup for people who enjoy creative and crafty pursuits of all kinds. Hosted every Wednesday evening at the Creative Community Campus in Tauranga South, the group invites participants to bring whatever hobby they love—knitting, crochet, embroidery, painting, sketching, scrapbooking, sewing, weaving, or other textiles and crafts—and work alongside others in a relaxed, social environment.
It’s a community-minded space where people of all ages and skill levels can share tips, learn from one another, and simply enjoy the process of creating alongside others. There’s usually a small attendance fee (around NZD $2–$5) which goes towards space hire and materials; attendees bring their own supplies, though a haberdashery is sometimes available to use.
The atmosphere is informal and friendly, ideal for those looking to meet people in Tauranga with similar creative interests or simply enjoy a couple of hours of craft time in good company. Because the group welcomes “any hobby,” it can also be a great way to try out new crafts and expand your creative repertoire.
Attendance cost is $2 if you bring your own supplies, or $5 if you would like to make use of the haberdashery. We meet at the Creative Community Campus at the Historic Village every Wednesday, 6-8pm. Entrance via the rear door in the car park behind the church.
